We would like to make you aware of the very sad news of the passing of Professor Robin Eady, Emeritus Professor within the St John’s Institute of Dermatology at King’s College London (KCL) and former Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). Robin was a true pioneer in skin cell biology and in developing basic and translational research on inherited skin diseases, particularly for the inherited blistering diseases known as epidermolysis bullosa. Robin was one of the founding fathers of the BSID and was the main contributor in establishing the Society’s original constitution. Robin’s was a truly remarkable life, having lived through 25 years of renal dialysis and 30 years following a kidney transplant, and yet he accomplished so much within investigative dermatology, training numerous clinical fellows many of whom are now Professors of Dermatology in several countries around the world; the national diagnostic epidermolysis bullosa laboratory based at St Thomas’ Hospital is also named after him.  In 2015 Robin was presented with the BSID medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to investigative dermatology.  Robin died on Wednesday August 2nd after complications following heart valve surgery. He is survived by his wife Ann and son Tom, to whom we pass on our deepest condolences.
